RETECH supplies strip casting systems

Retech, a SECO/WARWICK Group company, is set to deliver strip casting systems to support expanded rare earth magnet manufacturing within the United States.

Strip casting is a critical upstream step in the production of neodymium-iron-boron magnets and other high-performance permanent magnets. The process rapidly solidifies molten alloy into thin strips, forming feedstock that is further processed into high-performance magnets used in electric motors, precision actuators, and other advanced technologies.

The systems are configured to meet specific operational requirements while maintaining process consistency. In high-performance magnet applications, precise system atmospheric control, casting cooling rate, and thermal control during solidification directly impact downstream magnetic properties. For this reason, strip casting equipment must provide stable, repeatable operating conditions over sustained production cycles. Retech’s strip casters are designed from the ground up to achieve these requirements.

Over the past decade, much of the global rare earth mining, separation, and magnet manufacturing capacity has been concentrated outside the United States. Recent supply chain disruptions and growing demand for electrification technologies have prompted renewed efforts to reshore portions of this value chain, from raw material processing to finished magnet production. Federal initiatives and private investment alike have emphasized rebuilding domestic capability to reduce dependency on overseas sources for materials considered critical to economic and national security.

Expanding magnet production capacity within the U.S. requires not only access to rare earth oxides, but also reliable melting, alloying, and strip-casting infrastructure capable of operating at an industrial scale. Equipment suppliers therefore play a foundational role in enabling this transition from imported components to domestically manufactured feedstock and magnets.

Advanced magnet manufacturing depends on precision at every stage of the process,” said Retech President Earl Good. “Our strip casting systems are built to provide the rapid cooling rates that achieve the grain structure necessary for producing magnets that maintain superior magnetic properties, even at high temperatures. These systems will support long-term domestic supply growth.

Retech’s strip casting platforms are designed for integration into larger melt and materials handling systems, supporting continuous industrial workflows rather than isolated batch processing. The equipment supplied in this case reflects ongoing investment in domestic magnet production capacity, as manufacturers work to strengthen U.S.-based supply chains for critical materials.

These installations represent continued collaboration between equipment suppliers and materials producers focused on expanding advanced manufacturing capability within the United States.

Retech continues to support specialty alloy producers and magnet manufacturers with melting and casting systems tailored for scalable operation, emphasizing process stability, maintainability, and long-term reliability.
