They offer many of the same capabilities of full-size EB hearth melting furnaces, but in a more compact size.

To meet the varying demands of research and development, Lab-scale furnaces can be outfitted for dual-purpose use with electron beam melting under vacuum, or plasma melting under controlled atmosphere.
