Plasma Arc Welding (PAW)
Retech supplies Plasma Arc Welders (PAW) to allow its customers to create primary Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) electrodes from compacted titanium sponge and other alloys. This is the first step in the traditional VAR process for creating ingot of titanium and titanium alloys.
Retech will configure the welders based on the size and throughput requirements of the customer. These requirements will dictate the quantity of torches and the power of each torch that is required. The system can weld the compacts of material longitudinally and provide girth welds as required. The equipment can operate on either argon, helium, or a mixture of both depending on the process needs and can switch through the operator interface.
The customer will provide the material to the weld system, close the system and the welding system will execute the fully automated weld sequence. Multiple preprogrammed sequences can be provided based on the requirements. The system can be made to accommodate multiple electrode diameters and lengths. A change in these parameters from the operator station can allow the welding system to adjust for changes in the geometry of the material.
